What is liability insurance?

Liability insurance provides cover for any damage you cause to a third parties property, for example liability insurance protects a kitchen fitter who knocks over an expensive ornament whilst carrying cabinets into the property. Liability insurance also provides cover against any injury you cause to the public during the course of your work, for example if you were a bricklayer and dropped a tool which caused injury to someone walking past.

Is liability insurance a legal requirement?

The good news is there's plenty of competition in the insurance market so shop around for the best deal. There are three main ways of buying insurance - going through a broker, purchasing direct from the insurance company or over the internet.
